5th Anthropologie Location Opens in Toronto's Art & Design District

anthro 2With a tactiful location, Anthropologie opens it’s fifth Toronto location in the Art & Design District. The district ‘signifies everything Anthropologie values; authenticity, creativity, artfulness and independent thinking,‘ as quoted from their press release. Opening this morning at 10 AM, the 761 Queen St. West location has taken over a 7, 000 square foot space of a repurposed late 19th century church and has turned it into a one-of-a-kind retail experience that we’ve come to expect from Anthropologie.

The company has chosen to reflect the nature of the site and community by integrating work from local artists and artisans as well as restoring many of the church’s original features (arched stained-glass windows, casework and fireplace). Instead of modifying the existing architecture, Anthropologie has embraced it by converting the church’s double-height space into a second floor that can be accessed via a reclaimed wood and glass staircase.

It presented us with the welcome challenge of bringing out its inherent design features, while adding new ones to enhance the experience of the space. Most importantly we wanted to create a balance between architectural vistas and compelling visual merchandising,” explained Missy Peltz, Anthropologie’s executive creative director.[/quote_center]

In order to continue providing customers with a sense of surprise and discovery, each retail location has its own dedicated team of full-time visual artists and merchandisers that create bespoke art installations. The new Queen St. West location’s team spent more than 100 hours alone creating ‘whimsical, fairytale-like stories of holiday celebrations to life‘.

The new opening is at the most opportune moment for all last-minute holiday shoppers. With an eclectic mix of products, the store will have home furnishings, decor as well as women’s apparel and accessories available. If you’re looking for something a little bit more festive, Anthropologie also offers a specially curated selection of gifts for that special person.
