7 Reasons Why Lorde is the New Voice of Her Generation

Most famously known for her song “Royals” (which has won her two Grammy Awards), Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, otherwise known as Lorde may only be 17 but she’s showing the world how she has become one of the world’s most influential teenagers.

1. She has an appreciation for hidden talents

Despite being one of the most powerful singers in pop music, Lorde has taken Canadian indie electronic artists, Majical Cloudz with her as a supporting act for her extended Pure Heroine tour. This Montreal duo is but a cult favourite accustomed to playing for a few hundred spectators at least but are nonetheless excited to begin their musical affinity with their unexpected tour partner.

2. She responds to criticism from her peers maturely

After performing as part of a Nirvana tribute early in June, Iggy Azalea made criticizing comments that “Lorde is not Kurt Cobain’s peer” and should not have performed in honour of Cobain. Lorde responded that she “had a good time” and enjoyed the Nirvana tribute. Lorde continued that, “I don’t know how (Iggy) is feeling about it, but anyone who’s doing well deserves respect –and I respect what she’s doing.”

3. She believes that we need to stop worrying about what other girls are wearing

During an interview with Lorde, she brushes up on why we need to direct our worries on more important matters:

“People should stop worrying about their daughters. I don’t see a female without clothing as a terrible influence. There are worse things. Shooting people. Glorifying violence.”

4. Who doesn’t love a good sense of humour?

We certainly do and so does Lorde. *love heart eyes*

5. She tries her best to avoid scalpers

With an ArtistArena.com fan club, Lorde is valiantly trying to cut out ticket scalpers by giving fans private access to pre-sale tickets before hitting the market.

6. She’s not afraid to blast paparazzi for making her feel uncomfortable

Lorde reminds us that we shouldn’t be afraid to speak out if something is wrong.

7. Because flaws are OK

Lorde isn’t afraid to point out her imperfections and teach her fans about the unrealistic expectations of beauty the effects of airbrushing and photoshop has.

Lorde shows fans she isn’t afraid to be who she wants to be, forgoing all expected realities of the world that comes with fame.
