Pinks and reds are often the most avoided eyeshadow shades to use, since one wrong swipe of the brush or one unblended edge can lead to a pink-eye or “I-just-got-punched-in-the-face” look. Neither are pleasant, or will have you admiding your makeup skills. But with some proper technique, a sweet and rosey look can be achieved so that you’ll appear as innocent as Little Red Riding Hood. Obviously if the sweet and innocent look isn’t exactly what you had in mind, you could always do something a little heavier, or smoke up this look a little too.

A Pink, Sweet And Rosey Valentine's Day Look

What you’ll need:

The instructions:

  1. Prep your eyelid.
Start off with a clean slate. You should put on primer on your eyes so it will last longer and not smudge.
  2. Cover the entire lid with a matte soft white eyeshadow.
The color payoff of pink eyeshadow isn’t always the best, so it’s easier to work with a white base. Cover your entire eyelid up to the bottoms of your brows with MAC’s Brule to help even out the skin tone. Use a flat shader brush to pat on the eyeshadow.
  3. Apply the pink with a wet brush.
Wet a flat shader brush and then apply the pink eyeshadow with it. The moisture will help pick up more color, resulting in a more vibrant shade. Make sure to use a patting motion or you’ll just end up wiping off the base color that we just applied.
  4. Darken your crease.
Using a pencil brush, darken your crease with Urban Decay’s Hustle to get a more defined eyelid. You can bring the definition all the way to the front corner of the eye. Make sure to blend out all of the lines.
  5. Darken up the outer V.
Using another pencil brush, draw in a V-shape using MAC’s Smut on the outer corner of your eye. Take care to blend out harsh lines as well to avoid a cut-crease look.
  6. Brighten up the corners of your eyes.
With the flat shader brush you first used, apply a little bit of Urban Decay’s Sin to the inner corners of your eyes. This will brighten up your look and make your eyes appear wider.
  7. Line your upper lash line.
Taking an angled eyeliner brush, dip it in water and using MAC’s Smut to line your lashes. Try to stay as close to the lashes as possible and draw a thin line.
  8. Line your bottom last line.
Repeat Step 7, but to the bottom lash line. Don’t close off your eyes by lining them completely from one end to the other. Only go as far as 2/3 of the way inwards.
  9. Curl your lashes.
Give your eyes some va-va-voom by curling your lashes.
  10. Apply mascara to your upper lashes.
Wiggle on coat or 2 of mascara onto your upper lashes. Remember to not go overboard and give yourself clumpy lashes.
  11. Apply mascara to your lower lashes.
Put a little bit of mascara onto your lower lashes but be careful not to apply too much. You don’t want to end up looking like a spider.
  12. Et voila!
Your look is complete and you’re ready to wow your date or rock your day!
