For those of you that haven’t heard (or have been living under a rock), Alexander Wang is collaborating with H&M for a collection which will be released in stores and online November 6th. The fashion gods finally blessed us with a preview of the collection and topped it off with a killer runway show last night.
Though the photos of the collection came out yesterday morning, the runway show which took place in Harlem last night, brought out stars like Jessica Chastain, Dakota Fanning, Solange Knowles, and Kate Mara who wore one of the dresses in the collection (and looked amazing, of course). While every show has an underlying theme, this one was obvious; sport and fitness. The runway itself was an actual track and field competition space, which the designer had revamped and made his own; think black on black.
This was the perfect runway to showcase the collection which mixes sport and performance for everyday life. The collection encapsulates the busy lifestyle of the big city and targets and capitalizes upon the fit modern man and woman. The ode to sport was present within the show from the models wearing football helmets to boxing gloves. The women’s collection will include about 38 garments including leggings, neoprene sweatshirts, and graphic dresses. Accessories and other daily items, such as backpacks and gym bags, will complement the garments. Don’t be alarmed when you see Wang’s boxy name and logo throughout the collection. While his name may be slang for something a little NSFW, the designer’s street cred is so much more important and prestigious.
The runway show ended in the best way possible; Alexander Wang himself running a lap around the track. Not to menton he had the biggest smile on his face which was just adorable and charming. Let’s not forget the time where Missy Elliot made her comeback performance to end the evening, singing her beloved singles from the early 2000s including, “Gossip Folk,” “Work It,” and “Pass That Dutch.”
Below is a preview of the collection that is due in stores next month. You can check out the full men’s and women’s collection here.
