Let’s face it, we all lust over SYTTD marathons every weekend. When we went to Canada’s Bridal Show this weekend, we saw all the glitz of weddings in action. Canada’s Bridal Show is the largest bridal show in the nation bringing the best of the industry together for a weekend of fun, love, and amazing giveaways.
The giveaways in this year’s show were amazing! Attendees were able to enter for the chance to win a $40, 000 wedding from Z103.5, a Remax home down-payment, and an all-inclusive dream honeymoon from InStyle Vacations and Sunquest. As if these weren’t amazing on their own, we witnessed the sheer excitement of a couple who won a diamond ring and nearly cried because they were so over the moon happy! Needless to say, this entire event lit up our hearts. We got a chance to speak with some of the exhibitors and ask them about the latest trends in the wedding industry.
Slate Photo and Video
Everyone knows photography and videography are some of the most important aspects to a wedding. We spoke to Greg from Slate Photo and Video about popular trends in wedding photography. One thing that was consistent the entire weekend was the word vintage. Couples are loving the vintage feel to their wedding photos. Whether this is through rustic locations or through applied filters, couples are pushing their limits and looking for a unique aspect to their photos.
When asked about how to keep couples looking natural during a shoot, Greg says he often tells couples to focus on being together in that moment. He gives couples something to think about, for example, their honeymoon. The expressions of the couple in that moment, truly being themselves are the most candid and natural shots. Not to mention it is things like this that let him gauge the comfort of the couple; are you adventurous and fun-loving? If so, don’t be surprised if he pulls you down into the subway to take some out of the ordinary shots. If you are preparing for a wedding shoot, know your limits and push them to get the best (and most fun) photos.
The Polka Dot Paper Shop
First of all, we were literally having “awhh” moments to every single of these designs. The Polka Dot Paper Shop offers customized invitations for your special day. Your guests will have the exact same reactions as we did when they open their envelope. When we spoke to Jenna from the Polka Dot Paper Shop, she emphasized that they try to make invites that are easy to mail but still have the right amount of “bling”. With that, they embrace the “quirky but classy” method which their designs certainly show. The little details such as the embossing, the glitter (which doesn’t transfer by the way), and lace give it the classy feel every wedding invite needs. The unique and creative designs like the movie tickets (with perforated RSVP cards), the passport collection, and the comic book all give a new and fun look to the invite. A lot of couples are now paying attention to how their wedding invite depicts their new life together, and let us tell you, they are far from boring!
These guys had videos on display that pretty much consumed all of our attention. Veriation Music is a one-stop shop for everything entertainment for your wedding including, DJs, MCs, Music, Event Planning, Audio/Visual, and much, much more. They strive to give you the best experience for you and your guests. Step outside the box at your reception and dive into something like flare bartending to impress all your guests (note: don’t freak out when they set the bar on fire!). Veriation Music gave us some advice to pass onto all the brides and grooms to be: have entertainment that you and all your guests will enjoy. Don’t go for something that is expected, do something that would interest you if you were a guest at a wedding. That’s what Veriation is for, to give you everything you need and the flexibility you need to create the best experience at your wedding.
Now now ladies, the wedding isn’t all about the bride, at least that is what we tell the men! Menswear is taking a turn in the wedding industry. Quattro Clothiers informed us that we are seeing more diversity in suit color meaning there is no obligation to wear a black suit but wear more grey, navy and ivory. Men are also starting to embrace the women’s trend of having more than one outfit; that’s right, one ceremony suit and one reception suit. So ladies, when your man says he wants a different suit for the big day, let him have it. Having a big lapel or a colored lining may not matter to you, but it may make him feel like James Bond in a custom suit.
OKAY, we were so excited to see what Kleinfeld Canada would bring to the show and oh my they delivered. We spoke to them about all the current trends in wedding gowns because, let’s face it, Kleinfeld is the best of the best when it comes to designer wedding fashions. According to Connor, our wonderful friend from Kleinfeld, brides are still looking to emulate the princess look on their big day so ball gowns are still in style. Just like the photography, we are seeing a vintage shift. Brides are now requesting “the Great Gatsby look” meaning very classic and polished.
Connor gave us some tips to share with brides who are making appointments to find their perfect dress. The first, leave your entourage at home. Though it is nice to have some support when it comes to shopping, brides are often overwhelmed when there are so many opinions at hand. Their opinion gets lost in the crowd and they often feel the need to please everyone else before they please themselves. Second, keep an open mind. There may be certain styles of dresses that are out of your comfort zone, give them a try regardless, you may be surprised with the result! Third, know your budget! The last thing you want is to love a dress that you cannot afford. All of these combined will improve your wedding experience (it’s true, Kleinfeld says so).
Check out some other photos from the show below and a special thanks to Canada’s Bridal Show for having us this weekend!
