Accent pillows are important. Like, super important. Read about why here. They can really pull a room together, and tie in a color theme nicely. We know they can be pretty pricey, so here’s an easy way to spice up your decor without breaking the budget. This DIY accent pillow is much more affordable than a $40 pillow at the store!
Pick a fabric.
Pick a fun fabric for your accent pillow. We suggest patterns or bright, solid colors. The point of an accent pillow is for it to be the eye-catching accent, so make it fun!
Gather pillow stuffing.
Pick your pillow stuffing – cotton, synthetic, feathers, your choice! Whatever you feel is comfortable. Buy a little more than you think you’ll need – you’ll be surprised how much stuffing you’ll need to make your pillow nice and full.
Because you need to cut things. Heavy duty ones are recommended when cutting through fabric!
Draw out the size of your pillow.
Draw out the shape of your accent pillow and add an extra inch for room to sew. We chose a long rectangular shape, but you can get as creative as you’d like!
Cut the fabric.
Snip, snip, snip.
Sew the open sides.
Simply sew close the open ends leaving a small space at the end where you will stuff the pillow. Make small stitches to get your pillow nice and secure.
Turn it inside out.
This is the fun part. Be sure to pull the stuff to the corners as well. Fill it as firm as you’d like.
Sew the pillow close.
Finally, sew the pillow closed by folding the fabric inwards, and doing small stitches across the very top of the seam.
