How To Stay Active With Your Kids Without Summer Camps!
Summer is a great season to enjoy the outdoors! A lot of parents spend a couple of hours online googling the best summer camps in the city for their children and, on the other hand, a lot of parents decide to spend the summer with their children. If you’re one of those parents that can afford to spend the school break with your little ones well good for you! Here’s a Pros list as I see no Cons, just don’t forget the coffee!
By the way, I am one of those moms who has decided that this year my daughters and I would make the best of those long, sunny days sans summer camps!
1. No summer camps mean sleeping-in every morning for 60 days!
Ah, how lovely it is to be able to sleep-in every morning with my girls. No alarm! We wake up when we have rested. Pure bliss! Stress-free mornings are here.
2. We make our own schedule! Instead of going by a summer camps’ schedule…
Children are creative and full of fun ideas, let them rule the day- they will love it and I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised! After breakfast the children and I begin discussing where we want to go and what we want to do that day. Parents, you’d be surprised to hear how clever this generations is! Discussions in which children are included lead to great communication and leadership skills topped with assertiveness, self-confidence and independence. And, who doesn’t want all of the above for their children?!
3. We get to spend more time with family!
My daughters and I visit my mom and dad at least three times a week, now that it’s summer, and we love it! During the school year our schedules are so packed that we can only go to grandma’s and grandpa’s house once a week. However, now that summer days are here we are spending them with the ones we love around a home-cooked meal! Yummy! And of course, the pro to this is that families bond when they spend time together!
We get to plan our summer – which is such a fun and powerful feeling. Every day is a new day full with the wonderfully, exciting feeling of the unknown! So, go ahead, be spontaneous! Let the little ones tell you where they want to go and figure it out with them, not for them!
There’s so much to do in the city: the zoo, the ROM, AGO, parks, splash pads, pools, festivals, fun fairs, musical theatres and farms just to name a few! At the end of the day, whatever you decide to do with your kids stay safe, active and full of joy! Happy summer!
P.S. I’m not saying not to let your kids go to camp (most parents are working and don’t have time to do all this with their kids), they’re making funds for them instead and that’s 100% amazing! Last year I had my girls to to a ballet summer camp and they loved it.
