Just when you’re ready to break out into your jewel tones and neutral palettes for the fall, the Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion week displays its pastels and florals. Yes fashion week is upon us, heck it’s more like fashion month with different cities around the whole hosting their own fashion week all throughout the month of September and even some in October.
Although it may seem like a fun time for editors, bloggers and models to run around in pretty outfits, they never actually have any time off. You’ll see most of them at every event either documenting shows through Instagram, or blog posts. Some blog posts even go up within the same day as a show! If you’ve ever wondered how they do it and want to attend Fashion Week somewhere yourself, here are our most important tips and tricks to staying on the ball.
Social Media, Social Media, Social Media
If you didn’t already notice everyone taking pictures with either their cell phone or their DSLR, then you’re already falling behind. Instagram, Twitter and Facebook will be your best friend this month. If you’re not already familiar with how these 3 platforms work, we suggest you get a start on it. You gotta post statuses and pictures to stay on the top. After all, you know the saying “Pics or it didn’t happen“!
Your Own Entourage
Seriously though, who has time to take their own outfit photos when you’re too busy hopping into cabs to make it on time for the next show? That’s what a bevy of entourages is for. Get your team to wait outside of the show and text them when you’re near the door. So as soon as you step out, they can drown you in flashes as bright as the paparazzi.
You’ll get those perfect “deer caught in the headlights” type of look as if you were caught off guard and the pictures weren’t staged. But no one has to know besides you right? And do you have Instagram on hand? You’re going to need somewhere to upload those photos after don’t you?
It’s always a good idea to stay hydrated. Heck with all of those pre and post parties you’ll be attending, the amount of energy you’ll be using to run around the city is good enough to write off as cardio. But you gotta replenish. Opt for bringing a water bottle with you to the shows, or if you’re a fashionista then sipping on a straw out of a bottle of Perrier works just as well.
We understand that it is fashion week, so everything is about the look. You’re going to wear those mile high heels to look impressive, but really who cares how you look in the cab?
Most of the shows usually run about 30 minutes late, but with all of the traffic, you’re probably going to be even later then that. The doors close the minute these shows start and you won’t be allowed in even if you’re a minute late and you have a front row seat. So make sure to give yourself ample time to get there in case the fashion week traffic gets bad.
Let’s face it, you’re not going to get enough sleep. What with all of the late night after parties followed by the 9 AM shows, how are you even going to get in that beauty rest? The key here is to nap in the cab (those rides are going to be lengthy!) or make sure to get lots of rest before you go to fashion week. It’s even better if you don’t have drink since you’ll be well rested at night once you get back to your hotel room!
You’ll be jam packed so close to people during the shows that it’ll be reminiscent of your daily commutes to school/work on public transit. Get ready for someone to sit on the hem of your dress or walk on your feet. Street Style photographers may even stop you to grab a picture before you even know it. So get comfortable with people touching you, calling your name or pulling you back. Fashion week is all about getting up close and personal.
