Caffeinated tea, such as black tea, work best for this as the caffeine temporarily tightens the skin around your eyes by drawing out excess water. The natural tannins in tea fight inflammation. The cooling effect also plays a factor here, where it slows the blood flow to the eyes and reduces swelling. So make yourself a warm cup of tea, take the bags out and place them in the fridge or freezer, drink your tea while you wait, and then take them out of the fridge and place them on your eyes!
