How to Host the Perfect Dinner Party

Two things most women love: parties and food. Hosting your own dinner party can be hard work, but definitely worth it. You get to spend time with some good friends, show off your culinary skills, and impress your friends with your class and ability to pull such a great evening off. Here are some things to consider and some tips along the way on how to host the perfect dinner party.

1.) Theme.

You could always go without a theme and host a conventional dinner party, but let’s kick it up a notch and add a fun theme. Maybe it will be Mexican night, or Asian fusion. Either way, this gives you a sense of where to go with everything else related to your dinner party so that you do not look organized and confused.

2.) Decor and table setting.

You want to create the right vibe and ambience to encourage everyone else to get into the mood of the event. Flowers and candles make great table pieces, but stick to non-scented candles as scented ones aren’t the best around food. Some cute cocktail napkins (and glasses because we’re going to be drinking, obviously) or place mats make a table pop. Don’t underestimate the aesthetics of a clean tablecloth either!

3.) Music.

Having some background music creates great ambience and prevents awkward silences during the meal. The music should be something that most people enjoy, and possibly match your theme as well. Songza is great at curating playlists for every occasion.

4.) Food.

It’s best to start off with casual platters that people can pick at while chatting with others. Nothing beats a classic cheese and meat plate, but don’t forget veggies for your vegetarian friends, and for the “healthy alternative.” Then guests should sit down for the entree, and finally dessert. All should fall into the theme, if you chose to have one. Make sure you are aware of anyone’s allergies, intolerances, and preferences – you don’t want anyone leaving your place in an ambulance.

5.) Drinks.

Stick to a signature cocktail (that matches your theme). If guests would like to bring anything, suggest their favorite wine or spritzer. Don’t forget to check out our cocktail tutorial videos, or try these summer cocktails if the season is right!
