Are you ready to get your bodies back, mommies? This is pretty much what’s on every mom’s mind post baby. It takes a year, without any type of exercise, to go back to our body weight. However, with a little exercise and the power of greens we can speed up the process and enjoy our mom bods even more than before!
Once you decide that you want your body back, sexy mommy, please remember two main keys to staying happy throughout this amazing journey:
- Listen to your body.
- Don’t compare your body to your GF’s body.
Only we know which foods make us feel energized, sluggish, fresh and bloated, so take notes and observe yourselves. Maybe, try a food journal to keep track of the foods you consume, but most importantly have fun with it! And, let’s chat about comparison, I think Theodore Roosevelt says it best: “Comparison is the thief of joy”. Exactly! Please, avoid comparing yourselves with one another. We are all unique and beautiful with strengths of our own. If anything, we should congratulate, celebrate and appreciate our differences, girlfriends!
I often get asked how I got my body back after giving birth to my daughters. I like to “experiment” with food and find out which foods make me feel the best and give me the most energy. I believe that’s what it comes down to – feeling our absolute best without depriving ourselves from food and stepping on the scale every single day.
Get your body back in 11 steps:
This is cliché, but it’s true. Water flushes out our intestines naturally without loading our bods with tons of sugar, like most other drinks do. Make water your best friend. Any other drink is packed with sugar which turns into fat. Get creative and add different fruits and veggies to your water and turn it into a true vitamin drink: lemons, limes, cucumbers, berries, etc. Go with the the flow and experiment what kind of vitamin water tastes delicious to you.
2. Meatless Mondays – You Should Try It
Just give it a go and try meatless meals on Mondays. Meat-free eating can be delicious and, bonus, light! You’ll become more creative in the kitchen with vegetables and legumes once you make this a habit and your body will fill up with lots of fiber, a sure way to getting your body back! One thing’s for sure – the variety is endless when it comes to fruits and vegetables which makes shopping fun. Haven’t tried asparagus lately – brave up, give it a go!
3. Grocery Shopping
Make a grocery shopping list and stick to it – unless you want a second bag of Granny Smith apples then go ahead and break the rule. Try to buy a cart full of vegetables and fruits – this way when you get hungry that’s all you’ll eat. Add to your shopping cart milk, yogurt, bread, your choice of protein and legumes. Are chips or chocolate your weakness? Go ahead, indulge, but don’t buy the 2 for 1 deal. Remember, you’re getting your body back, GF. Remember: the food that’s in your fridge will be the food that’s in your stomach – choose wisely!
4. Walk It Out
If you are able to walk to places: store, park, movies, coffee – do it. Walking is an effective and gentle exercise which doesn’t put pressure on our joints. Opt to grocery shop by foot three times a week. It’s such a great way to stay in shape and get your body back. Need motivation, moms? Add your iPod to your outings! P.S. If Kate Moss can walk, so can we.
5. Swim A Little
Do you have a pool in your gym, condo, or neighbourhood, community centre? You should go do a lap or two and see how you feel. Swimming is a great way to tone up and get our bodies back in shape. You will feel refreshed and rejuvenated after a couple of laps in the water. Hit the spa after for some detoxification!
When our bodies don’t get enough sleep – 8 hrs. – we naturally fight fatigue with food. We consume a lot more food when we are tired to make up for the lack of sleep. Going to bed on time every night and getting lots of sleep is important to staying healthy and fit, naturally. Be sure to turn off the lights and to leave your cell phone in a different room for a deep, night’s sleep.
7. Cook At Home
Embrace the home-cooked meals and cook as much as possible at home in order to get your body back. Cook from scratch and discover the freshness of food. Step out of your comfort zone and experiment with a variety of different spices and herbs from all over the world. Become your own chef and get your body back, amiga. Dining out is fun, enjoy once in a while!
8. Relax – It’s All Good
When we are relaxed we are content. We are at peace. We are in tune with our bodies. When we are relaxed we don’t tend to think about food, we don’t stress ourselves, we don’t worry, we don’t usually eat muffins or potato chips – we are happy and make wiser choices with our lifestyle. Breathe and relax.
9. Read These Books
They are entertaining and knowledgable. A perfect way to start to get your body back and keep it the way you want it.
10. Rules – Make Your Own
Make your own rules. Do what works for you, girlfriends. If a cheese pizza slice works for you – go for it, indulge. If a kale salad makes you feel wonderful – eat it. Break the rules and create your own rules to live by. As long as you see results with your energy level, weight and happiness then that’s what really matters.
11. Use the Steps
Do you see a staircase? Take the steps up! Steps tone our legs: thighs, calfs, and buttocks just to name a few. Plus, going up or down steps is like a mini cardio work-out. Let’s work towards our goal: take the steps, get your body back!

Once you decide to get your body back do make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons. Do it for yourself. No one else should be of influence. It is your body. Take action, accordingly and always love yourself every step of the way.
