ICYMI: Kesha Sues Producer Dr. Luke for Sexual Assault and Battery

Kesha sues producer Dr. Luke

Kesha sent much of the music industry, and us, into shock yesterday when she filed a lawsuit against her longtime music producer, Dr. Luke. The 27-year-old pop star is accusing Dr. Luke (Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald) for sexually, verbally, emotionally, and physically abusing her since she signed on with him at the age of 18 nearly a decade ago.

In the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Dr. Luke would give her drugs and alcohol to lower her defences in order to abuse her sexually. Kesha is now asking to be relieved from her contract with Gottwald.

In one instance according to the lawsuit, Luke made her snort a substance before getting on a plane. He then forced himself on her once she was drugged up on the plane. In another instance, he gave her “sober pills” after forcing her to drink. The singer claims that she woke up the next afternoon in his bed sore and sick, with no recollection of the night before. It doesn’t stop there; Luke was allegedly violent toward Kesha, once “violently thrashing his arms” at her, forcing her to flee barefoot into mountains surrounding the area.

The abuse also had a factor in Kesha’s check-in to rehab earlier this year in January. Luke allegedly criticized her appearance and telling her she needed to lose weight and be more skinny. This attributed to her eating disorder which she has spoken about before.

Kesha’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, stated “This lawsuit is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for ten years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and an instance of sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke.”

It is now being reported that Dr. Luke filed a countersuit against Kesha saying that all claims made against him are false and are just a ploy by Kesha’s mother and management team to get her out of her contract. While the story is still developing, we hope that this is resolved quickly. Allegations of abuse are not taken lightly. Since the initial story, a full copy of the lawsuit has been posted online.
