It’s that time of year again when Starbucks brings back their ever popular Pumpkin Spiced Latte and all of the Halloween candy starts appearing in stores everywhere. And while all of these treats may appear to be ridiculously tempting to sink your hands and teeth into, there are ways to curb your sugar cravings without having to give up sugar completely.
But I’m so used to eating all of that sugar!
As children, most of us gorged on candy and never really gave a care as to how the amount of sugar affects us. But as we grow older, we become more invested in our health and watch out for what we eat. Sugar is most often the first thing that we cut besides carbs (neither are good to completely cut out from your diet), and it definitely is the hardest. You can find sugar in almost everything. From the candy we munch on to the fruits that we assume are healthy. Although sugar can be bad, it’s a crucial component to keeping your brain functioning, so always remember that moderation is key.
If you’re having trouble keeping down your sugar cravings, we’ve got some tried and true methods to keep it at bay.
Ration Your Stash
Let’s go all war time nostalgia and ration your candy. Put them into the weekly pill organizers to keep yourself from demolishing the entire box in one day. Usually your cravings will be satisfied after a quick taste so just pop a couple into your mouth at a time instead of 50 kilo tonnes of it.
The next time you feel tempted to stuff your face with candy, grab a banana instead. Bananas are actually loaded up with natural and healthy sugars that should satisfy your craving for the time being. So you’ll still get the sugar that you want but some healthy nutrients along with it!
Time it Out
Did you know that cravings only last 20 minutes? So the next time you have an urge to eat something sweet, try to keep yourself distracted in the mean time and allow your cravings to time themselves out.
