We’ve all had that urge to pop our pimples as soon as they appear, and yes we all know that it’s bad, it’ll leaves scars, you’ll spread more germs around, blah, blah, blah. But we just can’t help it. So if you’ve got some acne scarring that you want to lighten up, here’s a quick and easy way to do it at home! It inexpensive, natural and works best on mild to moderate scarring. If you have much darker pigmentation, then this method may not work for you.
So remember how back in middle school when your mom wouldn’t let you get those oh-so-cool streaks in your hair, so you and your friends decided to be rebels? You went online and found out that if you put lemon juice in your hair and sat in the sun for a couple of hours, your hair would naturally lighten up. Well the same process can be done for your skin to lighten acne scars!
Today we’ll show you use lemon juice to lighten those unruly dark scars left behind by acne. Try this quick tip at home when you have some down time or are watching a movie. Remember nothing is magical and your scars won’t go away immediately over night, so continue to use it until you see results. It usually takes your skin anywhere from 2-3 weeks to produce any significant changes from products you are applying. The key is to be patient and consistent with your regime and eventually you’ll see a change!
The most important step before apply anything to your skin is to cleanse. We’ve chosen our favorite and inexpensive facial cleanser from here. You don’t want facial oil to absorb with the product that you’re trying to use. That completely defeats the purpose right? Pat dry your skin with a towel and your face is ready! Remember, don’t rub your skin, you want to pat the towel all over until your skin is dry. The friction caused by rubbing will slough off layers of healthy skin and will leave your skin overdried, which will result in your skin over-producing oil to compensate.
Now you’re going to use those biceps you got from going to the gym and you’re going to squeeze that lemon as hard as you can. Collect all of the lemon juice over a bowl and pour it into your clean bottle once you think you’ve squeezed that sucker dry. If you need some strength inspiration, think of the last person that made you angry and squeeze out of rage!
Once you’ve collected all of the lemon juice, soak a cotton round with it and place it on your skin. Make sure to leave the cotton round on that area for at least 10 minutes before removing it. The best part is that any extra lemon juice on your skin will eventually evaporate so you don’t have to wash your face after this process.
Make sure to store any extra lemon juice that you have left over in the fridge for future use. If the juice starts to change color or smell funky, throw it away immediately. We don’t recommend using lemon juice over any open wounds as it will cause some major irritation. Also try to limit how often you’re applying the juice since you also don’t want to over-dry your skin.
