If you loved Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy as much as I did, then you will be delighted to hear that Darren Aronofsky will be directing the movie adaptations of the hit series. You can watch trailer for the MaddAddam Movie here.
Even those who didn’t read the trilogy should be able to enjoy this science fiction, dystopian future adventure. The series is comprised of Oryx and Crake (2003), The Year of the Flood (2009), and MaddAddam (2013). Set approximately 50 years in the future, we see a dystopian world essentially destroyed by a bioengineered apocalypse, referred to as the “waterless flood” set in motion by a corrupt corporate scientific establishment obsessed with genetic modification. The first two books take place simultaneously, while the third ties up the story and connects all the loose ends.
The line up of characters includes an intorovert named Snowman, an insane geneticist Crake, a sub species of perfect-but-emotionless (except for happiness and love) humans called Crakers, a tough tomboy girl named Toby, an eco-cult of “God’s Gardeners” and Adam One, the mysterious leader of the Gardeners. There are also highly intelligent pigs and the psychopathic, violent “Painballers”. With movies such as Noah, Requiem for a Dream, and Black Swan under Aronofsky’s belt, we aren’t sure what to expect from this series, but we are certain that it won’t disappoint.
There is no word yet when we can expect the first movie to grace the big screen, but we will be keeping our fingers crossed that we don’t have to wait too long!
