It’s summertime, so your favorite thing to do on weekends is to set up a BBQ in your backyard or go on picnic lunches. Why have a typical boring one when you can spice it up a little? Here’s a DIY on how you can eat all of the delicious meat inside a watermelon and then turn it into a juice dispenser. If you’re feeling a little naughty, turn it into a keg instead.

If you want your watermelon to sit on its own, then the metal bucket is optional. Make sure that you roll the melon around until you find a flat surface that it can stand up on its own without tipping over. If you’d rather stand it up in a bucket then skip this step and go ahead and carve a hole into your watermelon.

The next thing to do is to take that ice cream scoop and go ham on the insides of the watermelon. Try to core out as much of the innards as possible but leave a small section of it at the bottom. Why, you ask? Because if you scoop all the way to the base, the beer shank won’t be able to reach the liquid that pools at the bottom and you’ll be wasting all of that delicious juice that you’ve filled the melon with. Remember to save the innards, you can either eat them right away, or make it into a watermelon salad (more of that on another day).

Next you want to core a hole large enough to fit your beer shank into the base of your watermelon. If you don’t own an apple corer, you can go ahead and steal someone’s drill and make a hole that way instead. We recommend an apple corer though because they’re just so nifty and you can use it for your apples afterwards!

Once you’ve cored the right size for your beer shank, follow the instructions that came with it to install it into your watermelon. Remember to turn all the bolts tight so that you don’t end up with a leak!

After that, all that’s left is to fill up your watermelon with your favorite juice and you’re set! Your mixtures may come out tinged slightly pink and tasting like watermelons, but hey that’s refreshing right? Everyone knows that summer = watermelons (and pineapples). So if your drink tastes like watermelon then you know that you’ve gotten your summer right!
