Spring is here, and while that is accompanied by the spring cleaning routine of getting rid of unwanted things and decluttering your space, we suggest that you start with cleansing your body and mind. Start the season off with a rejuvenated YOU! Although cleanses can last anywhere between 3 to 21 days, we recommend that you try it for a 5 day period from Monday to Friday for optimum results. Read on and you will discover a basic cleanse that will boost metabolism, optimize digestion and boost energy.
Simple Daily Menu:
Upon rising:Drink two glasses filtered water—one of which is warm water with half a lemon squeezed in.
Stay hydrated through the day: 8 glasses of water from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed.
Breakfast: Try this super simple juice recipe that is great to detoxify your liver. In a juicer/blender throw in 1 medium sized peeled beet, 1/2 cucumber, 1 medium carrot and 1 apple. Drink up!
15 to 30 minutes later: Eat one bowl cooked quinoa. Flavour grains using our recipe here. Skip the added vegetables, just the eat the flavoured quinoa.
11 a.m.:Drink one to two cups veggie water, saved from steamed vegetables. Add sea salt or kelp and drink slowly.
Lunch (noon to 1 p.m.):Fruits and vegetables are high in fibre, filled with minerals, vitamins and plant chemicals called phytonutrients that prevent and even help treat disease. From carrots to broccoli, vegetables have low glycemic index and will help to sustain energy while flushing the system. Eat one to two medium bowls steamed organic vegetables/ greens. 3 p.m.: Same as 11 a.m.
Dinner (5 to 6 p.m.): Similar to lunch. If your craving something more filling, try this Vegan Kale Salad.
Late Evening:Herbal teas only.
Meditation-Try meditating every day after your early morning water, even a few minutes of meditation will help gather some positive energy. All you have to do to meditate is sit quietly for a few moments and let the thoughts come and go and breathe deeply. Be sure to turn off your phone, computer or whatever distracts you. Just be still with yourself. Try meditating one more time during the day to help calm your nerves.
Walking/ Jogging-If you feel angry, weak or frustrated, channel that energy into a sunrise/sunset walk or jog while listening to some music. This will help compose your thoughts and prevent negative feelings. Also the overall health benefits are plenty.
Try Simple Yoga-We love yoga and its multiple benefits. De-stress with some simple poses and shake off anxiety with the square breathing technique. If you’re a busy working woman, try these mid-afternoon work place stretches.
Please note: You may feel mildly weak the first couple of days. This will pass. Clarity and vigor should appear by day three, if not before. If you feel overly weak or hungry, assess your water intake. If needed, eat a small portion (3 to 4 ounces) of protein in the mid-afternoon. Detox regimens are intended for short-term use.
