It’s Saturday morning. You wake up clutching your head wondering why your purse is still on. You realize your full makeup is still intact all over your face, but you have toothpaste on your mouth…so at least your tried to brush. The best hangover cure is to drink plenty of water. Your body is dehydrated from all of the alcohol and needs to hydrate. There is nothing more glorious that waking up at 5AM and discovering your drunk self has left a full glass of refreshing agua. Do yourself a favour the night before, put a bottle or two on your table. Keep a case under your bed. If you’re not too blackout remember to drink water before passing out. It will help. Coconut water is also a good choice because it hydrates better than regular H2O and contains potassium which helps your body function.

Electrolytes, Juice, and Ginger Ale

Get your electrolytes up with Gatorade or Powerade. They replenish body salts that your body generally loses when it is dehydrated. Juices will help with vitamins. Ginger Ale is good because it will help soothe your stomach. Make sure it’s room temperature so you’re stomach can handle it. Ginger is a known treatment for nausea and upset stomachs.

Advil, not Tylenol

Advil (ibuprofen) should be taken as a last resort. It’s the hangover cure you take in case of emergency – or severe pain. Unlike Tylenol (acetaminophen), Advil is metabolized by your kidneys. Tylenol is broken down by your liver. It is basically abusive to put your liver through a night of debauchery and then consuming Tylenol. Advil is better for you, but seriously do you need to overwork your body? Take this if you have to be somewhere – bring the sunglasses.

If you woke up next to someone, you might be lucky. If you didn’t, call your man. Sex may be the last thing you want to do, but it releases oxytocin and endorphins which makes you feel good. It makes you happy, makes the time fly, and soothes your hangover. Maybe have a breath mint or something first.

– Stay away from caffeine, it will dehydrate you further.

– Always consume food prior to boozing.

– Have some water between your drinks.

– Hair of the dog is not real. It can make your hangover worse.
