If you’re not already familiar with the iconic aesthetic that is Lilly Pulitzer, think of it as resort preppiness. You get fun and bright prints that work well with solids, and are in shades which are appropriate for sunning in the tropics. Why exactly is the brand best known for their loud prints? Let’s have a little history lesson on Lilly Pulitzer…

Target X Lilly Pulitzer Collaboration Announced

She began her life as a New York socialite, but ran away to Palm Beach in her 20s. After opening up an orange juice stand and learning some problems of the trade – stains on her clothes, Lilly Pulitzer decided that she needed some clothing that would do the dual job of both hiding the stains yet ensuring that she looked good. You can’t get away with wearing black every day on the beach unless you’re planning on doing the sweat diet.

As luck would have it, people started to ask her where she got her clothing from and wanted pieces for themselves. And though it was back in the 50s and 60s, her bold prints and patterns are still going strong today! Come April, you’ll be able to get your hands on some of the pieces, and fortunately for us, Target has kept affordability at the top of their priority list. Almost 200 of the 250 pieces will be under $30, and the entire collection itself ranges from $2 to $150. Target has also listened to their customers and has opened up their size range to plus sizes for this collection.
