Let’s be real. Ponytails can be really boring. They’re mean’t to get the hair out of your face at the end of the night, or de-emphasize your hair to bring attention to your outfit/ make up. But what if we don’t want to look plain? What if there was a way to spruce it up? We don’t want to blend in with everyone else! Well, there’s a way: The French Braid Ponytail Hair Style. This hair style is great for if you’re trying to get an edgy look.

The best part is, this style is so simple. Literally, all you’re doing is french braiding the top section of your hair and pulling it into a ponytail. If you know how to french braid, you’re set. If you don’t, we’ve provided a mini tutorial for you ; )

What you’ll need:

  • 2 hair elastics

The instructions:

You will be french braiding the top section of your hair, and tying it up into a pony tail.

  1. Start with day old hair
Unwashed hair will have more grip, making the styling easier. If your hair is freshly washed, use dry shampoo to add texture.
  2. Section top and bottom sections of hair
The top section should start from your temples, to the crown of your head. The rest of the hair, the bottom, should be tied up, out of the way.
  3. Split top section of hair into three strands
We will be french braiding the top section. Grab an inch thick section of hair starting from the front and split it evenly into three strands.
  4. Flip left section to the middle
Take a section from the left and place it into the middle of the other two.
  5. Flip right section to the middle
From the opposite side (right), take that section and flip it to the middle of the other two.
  6. Collect hair from the left side and combine with existing section
Try to keep all your sections and the amount of hair collected the same.
  7. Flip left section to the middle
Take a section from the left and place it into the middle of the other two.
  8. Collect hair from the right side and combine with existing section
Try to keep all your sections and the amount of hair collected the same.
  9. Flip right section to the middle
Take a section from the right and place it into the middle of the other two.
  10. Repeat steps six- nine until braid is complete
Use an elastic to tie up the braid to keep it together. To make the braid more voluminous, use your fingers to gently tug on the braid.
  11. Combine the braid to the bottom section of hair
Use a comb for a clean, slicked back look. Try to keep the bottom section tight and smooth.
  12. Remove braid hair tie.
After everything is secured in one ponytail, remove the hair tie used for the braid and fluff up your hair.

Would you rock this look?
