The iPhone 6 has finally been revealed. And not only one but TWO bombs have been dropped to the public and eager Apple cult fans who can’t wait to get a hold of the next big thing are already lined up. This is also the last Apple product that Steve Jobs put his touch on so the legacy lives on. This review is for the fans that don’t want the tech jargon and want to get down to the important major features. Read on.
1. Two is better than one
This time around we have the option of choosing between a bigger iPhone andddd…an even bigger iPhone. The smaller model is more thin than the Plus and that’s about all there is to say about it.
2. It’s curved like the iPad and it’s faster of course
As with every launch, the newest device in the family is a faster and more powerful beast. For those unconcerned with the tech details, there’s an improvement from the iPhone 5/5S that is not extremely noticeable. There is now calling through Wi-Fi now which isn’t much of a big deal because apps have allowed us to do that ages ago.
3. Apple pay
What is this? You can now add your credit card to your Apple Passbook and pay at around 220,000 stores in the US with your new phone. Tim Cook is trying to kill the idea of a wallet and officially move your entire life to your phone because let’s get real, it is your life. Those concerned with privacy issues can be reassured because the merchant doesn’t get your private information. Put your new credit cards in with just a snap of it with the camera feature. Cool.
4. Camera and video
The phone has a physical stabilizer to allow for sharper images, especially useful in low light and the auto-focus will work twice as fast thanks to the “focus pixels” (whatever this means you can read about it here). The Plus model will have a DSLR like optical image stabilization.
Sadly there won’t be any funky colours offered to us because the new iPhone 6 will come in all the same colours as the iPhone 5S (silver, space grey, and gold). Fret not, there will be hundreds of cases designed for your phone rolling out in the next few months. It’s not as though you keep your phone naked for too long anyways. We learned the hard way how cheap your phone could look with the iPhone 5C.
6. Release date and price
You can get your Apple tainted hands on the device September 19th. With a two-year slave contract, the iPhone 6 starts at $199 while the larger version starts at $299. It’s the standard and of course, as memory goes up so does the price.
7. One more thing…there’s a watch
Apple has decided to catch up to Samsung’s Galaxy Gear watch with their very own luxury wearable gadget. The straps are completely configurable as it can be made in plastic or 18K gold. The watch has a curved face and a dial at the side for controls. Also noting how circly the new interface is. They’ll be available early 2015…I’m wondering why not call it iWatch?
We also appreciate that Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon voiced the commercials
Don’t like the new phone? Too bad, in Steve Jobs eternal words, “they’ll get used to it”
