We’ve heard over and over again that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but why? Skip lunch, no big deal, but skip breakfast? Absolutely not. According to nutritionists and other experts, breakfast is more important for several reasons.
The first, and most the obvious, is that it is the first meal of the day meaning your breakfast will include the first nutrients your body needs. In fact, your breakfast should include at least three of the four food groups (remember kids; grains, fruit and vegtables, milk and alternatives, and meat and alternatives).
Studies have shown that breakfast can help in the improvement of cognitive functions including improving memory. In children, breakfast helps to improve behaviour and attention span. My grandma used to tell me to always eat eggs and yogurt for breakfast before a big exam or meeting. Not entirely sure if it actually did anything to help, but I like to think grandma knows best! All this being said, sometimes we can all get stuck in a breakfast rut. The same bowl of cereal everyday can get old… fast. Thankfully, breakfast is one of those things that is easy to make a little more exciting.
Make a Smoothie
Throw some fruits and veggies together with some protein powder and make a filling smoothie for the morning. If you get a single serve blender, you won’t have to worry about making too much.

Add some fruit to that cereal
Because simply adding some fresh fruit like berries or bananas to a simple bowl of cereal can help give you a more filling, hearty meal.
Waffles and Pancakes (always)
Is there anyone who doesn’t love either waffles or pancakes (or both)? Try adding protein powder to the mix or even berries or chocolate chips to make it more exciting. If you are the kind of girl who doesn’t have much time most mornings, make some waffles/pancakes on the weekend, put them in ziplock bags, and freeze them! That way you just have to heat them up before you head out the door (and we promise, it works wonderfully!)
Do you always eat breakfast?
