Neon saw its fame in the 1980’s, but as the fashion world goes, trends are recycled. This summer, the trend has come back in full force but with an updated modern take.
The Golden Rule: Pick One Color and Stick With It
To avoid the day-glo look of the 80’s, the first thing you want to avoid is multiple colors. Pick one color and stick with it. It’s okay to wear multiple pieces of the same color (ie. a two-piece suit), just as long as it’s the same color. You can even use different tones such as a neon pink and a toned down pastel pink. Try to keep the total number of different colors in your outfit to a minimum. You’re already attracting attention by wearing neon, so don’t clutter your look by adding too many different colors to it.
Accessorize With Neon
If you’re more of a neutral gal, take a step into the world of neon by starting off with accessories. A statement collar necklace against a white/black shirt is sure to pop and attract anyone’s attention without making you look like you just stepped out of rainbow. If statement necklaces aren’t your thing, try your hand at a piece of neon art-deco earrings. Although you may be downsizing your neon look, remember to stick to the first rule of picking only one color. Keep your outfit simple even if you’re only using neon in accessories.
Another way quick way to brighten up your often is to try out a neon shade the next time you paint your nails. Did we mention that neon helps to make your tan pop? Pair a bright shade the morning after a weekend trip to the beach to fool your friends into thinking you went on a tropical vacation.
Or if you’re ready to make a little bit of an investment but not ready for a full blown neon look, the next step is shoes. Remember how we mentioned that a neon manicure will show off your tan? Well neon shoes will show off those beautifully tanned legs of yours as well.
Change Up Your Beauty Routine
Switch up your look for the summer by opting for a fluorescent shade of lipstick or lipgloss instead of just lip balm or nudes. If you need a more conservative look for work, try a quick swipe of neon eyeliner across the top the eyeliner on your top lashes or even on your lower lashes to brighten up your eyes.
