Love is one of those things that’s hard to describe. It is something that demands to be felt and experienced. Just like all emotions, it changes and fluctuates according to situations, circumstances, and time. Love is different for every one and it’s hard to say what love is to anyone at any point in their lives but we can try. What we love and how we define love when we are younger is different than the love we experience when we’re older. So here we go, what love means at different ages.
Love at Age 2
You love anyone that feeds you and holds you. You love your stuffed animals because they are your friends that you can have little tea parties with. You love your dolls for putting up with your weird fashion sense, leaving them half clothed sometimes because you just couldn’t deal with it or simply forgot to put on pants. You love sleeping, eating, and pooping.
Love at Age 5
You love Sunday morning cartoons and cereal. You love your new pet and can’t wait to get home from school to smother it with hugs. You love your teachers and finger painting. You love your parents for taking care of you. You love your mom for making you soup and letting you stay home when you’re sick.
Love at Age 10
You love your friends. You love going to sleepovers where you can stay up late and eat junk food under the covers because your parents aren’t there to yell at you. You love getting to stay up a little later than usual. You love getting to go away to camp for the first time. You love growing up!
Love at Age 13
You have your first crush and you’re confused about it all. You start to feel things that you’ve never felt before. You never dare talk to him but you talk about him to all your friends. You gush about how cute he is and how you melt when he smiles. You love the idea of love.
Love at Age 16
You start dating. You fall deeply for him. You experience an unfamiliar kind of love. A romantic love that takes you by surprise. You love all the firsts: the first kiss, the first dance, and the first time he holds your hand. You love the butterflies and the warm fuzzies. You love being in love.
Love at Age 20
You love tequila. And burritos. Usually in that order. You are skeptical of love at this point in your life because of all the heartbreaks and assholes. So you decide that it’s better to just love pizza. Pizza will never break your heart like another actual human being could. It will comfort you and fill your life with happiness and love. You love naps.
Love at Age 25
You love that you’re more mature and the people you’re seeing are more mature. You love that the games have sort of stopped. You love that your parents have finally given you space because you’re in your mid 20’s now so it means you should be responsible and able to take care of yourself. You love having your own space and having no responsibilities.
Love at Age 30
You love the security of a single person you can wholly rely on. You love that you are becoming the person you’ve wanted to be. You love learning new things and expanding your horizons. You love travelling and being able to afford it. You love that you are secure with yourself and have learned to love yourself again.
Love at Age 50
You love waking up to the love of your life. You love your kids. You love watching them grow older and finally see them leaving you alone. You love that you no longer have to continuously think of new and interesting things to say. You love that silence is comfortable. You love that he still puts up with you after all this time.
What stage of love are you at?
