We were treated to a very laid-back and casual collection by elan + castor, who’s aesthetic had a vey relaxed Cali-girl vibe. Her style showed through with the casually draped fabric for skirts and the thinly lined tops that appeared extremely comfortable yet fashionable to wear. The west-coast style would be perfect for the warmer months of spring and summer and aligns perfectly with the casual girl style that we often see on the streets and beaches.

We interviewed the designer of elan + castor and she shared with us the inspiration behind her collection. The prints were inspired by Nick Veasey’s x-ray photography and the models’ hairstyles and makeup channelled Talitha Getty’s style. She also wound the fabrics from her designs up into the models’ hair to create cohesion in the overall looks.
elan + castor’s S/S 2015 Collection
The hand printed patterns of elan + castor’s designs against a dusty nude palette worked well for that west-coast girl aesthetic that the designer was going after. We loved how each piece was unique due to the personal fabric dying process that goes into the creation of the pieces. Lots of wrap pieces were present in the collection (hello the 90’s sarong), proving that the 90’s trend is still going strong.
As typical for many spring collections, florals were ever present along with some stripes that are always timely for the warmer months.
Although the silhouettes were very loose and relaxed, you wouldn’t just wear these pieces to lounge around in at home. Catching onto the casual sweats vibe, elan + castor’s collection is perfect for the girl who wants to look put together but stay comfortable at the same time. We could definitely see ourselves wearing some of the maxi-dresses to an elegant backyard BBQ or a casual summer wedding.
Congratulations elan + castor for creating such a lust-worthy collection! We look forward to seeing you at the future fashion weeks to come as your collection launch was fantastic!
